HONORS ENGLISH II (H) (PRE-AP)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Honors I is required.
This English class provides students with an introduction into advanced composition and literature analysis. Students will focus on essay structure and coherence with emphasis on thesis and supporting detail. Different types of essays such as narrative, descriptive, process analysis, classification, compare and contrast, and definition are critically dissected, after which, the student will illustrate these techniques in his/her writing. Extensive vocabulary building as well as analogies are practiced and expected to be used in daily work. Class work entails essay writing including peer editing and revision work. Students are expected to write a formal research paper, a quarterly book critique analysis, and to participate in in-depth class discussion.
